What made you want to start a blog?
Since I was a little kid, I always kept a journal and had a huge passion for writing poetry. I’m in love with the written word and how it can be beautiful, transformative and inspiring; how it can awaken deeply rooted thoughts and emotions, bring them to the surface, and transform them into a substance that you and others can better understand. Writing is kind of like therapy!
I’ve been told for years that I should do something with my writing. I’ve always known it was my calling, but I never pursued it because I just couldn’t see how to create a secure future with it. Now as i’m getting older I realize that building a career from writing is actually the best way for me to create the “dream life” that I want so badly. So I’ve decided to no longer make excuses. I’m just going to put it all out there and see what happens! I don’t have anything to loose and everything to gain by trying.
What is the meaning of “Sweet On Bliss”?
I came to this title after many, many hours of piecing together the pieces of what this blog would eventually be about. I have always loved the word “bliss” and the meaning behind it. If I could use one word to describe how I would want to feel every day of my life, it’s “blissful” or “totally blissed-out.” (yeah ok, that’s three words.) 😉
Bliss emerges in our lives when we’re completely aligned with our true, authentic selves. When our souls get a big ‘ol bear hug from something or someone that makes us feel truly alive. Whether that means doing an activity we’re passionate about, hanging out with people we love and adore, eating a delicious piece of chocolate, or standing up and being a voice for something we believe in. And being “sweet on” something is just an old-fashioned, more charming way of saying “enamored by” or “crushing on.”
So “Sweet On Bliss” is just another way of saying “crushing on the moments that make you feel more alive.”
I want to live my life more from that place and I believe I can get there and inspire other momma’s to get there too by living life more honestly, authentically and purposefully.
What is the biggest dream you want to achieve for yourself in this life?
I really believe that its possible to create everything you have ever dreamed of in this life with a positive attitude, ambition, strong work-ethic and a willingness to fail and keep trying. I don’t think life will ever be perfect because life is life and will always have its challenges. But I think its possible to get really close. For me, that means having a close, loving, healthy family and marriage; having a career that I love and a life that is inspiring, passionate, and rooted in financial freedom. It means being able to travel for long periods of time if I want and explore the world with my family – all while being my own boss and working from my laptop!
What is your career right now?
Today I am more than grateful to be working as a registered nurse. I’m not going to sugar-coat it, it’s a great gig! I get to help others and provide for my family in a big way without having to work a lot of hours. Which is a total blessing! I worked really, really hard to get to where I am today but now that I’m here I realize that even though it’s a wonderful career and is checking a lot of boxes for me, it’s not my dream job. Something is missing. I realize now more than ever the truth in “do what you love and never work another day in your life.” I want to begin to work towards creating that in my life. I want to create a heart-filled, purpose-driven, passionately-fueled career where I can be my own boss and work from home or from anywhere else in the world. That is my dream!
How many kids do you want to have?
I definitely just want two and then I’m done! I have baby #2 due within the next 10 weeks and I really feel that after he arrives my family will be complete. I love being a mom but I also like time for myself and for my own hobbies and interests. Like anything in life, I think balance is the key and I know that for myself, two is the magic number.
What is your favorite thing about being a mom? What is the hardest?
Oh my gosh, there are so many things that are amazing and equally hard! I think my favorite part is how much joy and love they bring to my life throughout the entire day, no matter how hard it is or how stressed out I can feel at the same time. I love watching my son learn and grow and hit new milestones and I love sharing my favorite parts of life with him and watching his own passion for life unfold. Its magical! The hardest part? Can I say everything!? haha! Being a parent is super, super hard – especially with young kids. They take every ounce of energy from you and it is really difficult sometimes to find balance and to not let it run you into the ground. This has by far been my greatest challenge as a mom.
Where is your favorite place in the world that you have traveled to?
Costa Rica!!! I think I’m borderline obsessed. The two weeks I spent traveling around that country was by far the most amazing, soul-awakening, transformative time in my life. Wanting to spend an exorbitant amount of time there has been one of my biggest inspirations for this new life-shift. The mantra in Costa Rica is Pura Vida (or “Pure Life”) and I think the country embodies that perfectly. It’s pretty special and I just want to be surrounded by it.
I’ve heard that Haven Jade is an alias you use. Is this true?
Yes! Some people may find it odd that I’m using an alias instead of my real name, but I did it because it was really speaking to me to do so. I’ve had the name Haven Jade picked out for my future daughter for years now and then as life would have it, I was blessed with two boys! But I always felt connected to the name in some weird way, and so I didn’t want to let the name just die. Some way, I felt that I had to bring it to life. Since I’ve made the decision, the name has become something much more meaningful than I ever really imagined it would. I feel strongly about using it because I feel like it pushes me to become a better version of myself, to step out of my comfort zone and actually blossom into the person I have always wanted to be. It’s my alter ego if you will, the beacon to my higher self. It’s charging my spirit to take action in my life – so i’m just going for it!
Describe a perfect, blissed-out day…
Ok, well it would have to be sunny, let’s say a perfect 75 degrees. I sleep in, wake up to a delicious vanilla latte, do some yoga or go for a light run, then take an adventure with my family for the day maybe to the beach or to the river or lake. We barbecue and spend the day laughing, having fun and enjoying each other’s company, with good food and the beautiful outdoors. We make time to catch the sunset before driving home and then I snuggle on the couch with my family with a glass of wine and a great movie. Blissful Perfection!
